About Me

Dakota Sumpter is a photojournalist located in East Alabama, though he has lived from New England to Texas. As a photographer for Auburn University's athletics department, he has accompanied teams to the 2016 Women’s College World Series, the 2017 Sugar Bowl and the 2017 Track and Field National Championship in Eugene, Oregon. In addition, Sumpter’s photographs have been used by ESPN, Vice Sports and many other local and regional news organizations across the Southeast. Currently a senior in fine art at Auburn University, his landscape photographs of Tuskegee National Forest have been featured by Ain’t BadLenscratch, and Southern Glossary. While managing editor of The Auburn Plainsman, Sumpter and staff won the Associated Collegiate Press National Pacemaker award - the highest in collegiate journalism. During his free time he enjoys painting, trail running and relaxing with his beagle Lee.
